About Astrava

Making LNG available directly to end-users

Astrava pursues the development of LNG sales into downstream markets in Asia and Africa, supporting decarbonisation efforts as part of the energy transition.

Astrava focuses on early-stage business and project development, primarily small-scale, covering the full commercial scope from global LNG procurement to downstream sales and distribution. We implement existing LNG supply and distribution solutions with the support of a high-quality network of experienced players at each step of the supply chain — EPC companies, LNG sellers, equipment manufacturers, shipping operators and experienced LNG individuals on a project-by-project basis. Through this collaborative approach, co-developers and investors can join at various maturity stages of the business or project development cycle.

Purpose

Contribute to meeting the growing energy demand in emerging markets whilst supporting industries and communities’ efforts to improve air quality and reduce emissions.

Vision

Enable LNG sales into most downstream markets in Asia and Africa by 2030, by aligning interests and resources across the value chain and leveraging existing safe and reliable infrastructure and logistics solutions.

Mission

Localise and implement LNG end-to-end supply chains and business models to sell LNG to downstream end-users in the Power, Industry, Commercial and Transportation sectors — including the switch from oil products to LNG and the use of LNG as a fuel for heavy-duty trucks and buses.

Business development

Our approach to typical hurdles

Hurdle 01

Small initial demand despite vast potential

Our response — we support demand aggregation and leverage small-scale solutions to initiate and facilitate market development.

Hurdle 02

Uncertain development timelines due to regulatory gaps

Our response — we facilitate engagement with regulators and the sharing of successful experience across markets.

Hurdle 03

Short-term fuel procurement vs. long-term gas offtake commitments

Our response — we leverage containerized LNG supply to initiate sales, and engage local and regional development and energy financing institutions to unlock financing.

Hurdle 04

Multiple barriers to introducing LNG in downstream markets

Our response — we promote collaboration between players across the entire supply chain.

Christophe Malet
Founder & CEO

Christophe Malet set up Astrava to enable and accelerate the switch to LNG and natural gas away from oil products in downstream markets in Asia and Africa, supporting decarbonisation efforts as part of the energy transition.

In recent years, Christophe has focused on LNG supply and distribution in developing markets — including import and downstream distribution frameworks, LNG-to-Diesel switch strategies and the promotion of LNG as a fuel for heavy-duty trucking and buses, building on the successful Chinese business model. As Senior Vice President Upstream LNG at Hanas, a Chinese independent energy company, he supported the development of the company’s LNG receiving terminal project in Putian, Fujian province, and led its LNG procurement and business development activities.
